The other evening, the State Police intervened on the SS 7 Appia (SS 7 IV) after a report reached the Traffic Police Operations Center: a person in a highly agitated state had expressed the intention to commit an extreme act.
The Operations Center operator maintained constant telephone contact with the man, establishing a dialogue based on listening and empathy to reassure him and dissuade him from self-harm. Meanwhile, the same operator provided the Naples Highway Police patrol, which was immediately dispatched to the highway, with the information needed to quickly locate the person.
Once on site, the officers continued the mediation process they had begun over the phone, building trust with the suspect and convincing him to desist from his suicidal thoughts. Thanks to the timely and coordinated intervention of the Naples Highway Police, the situation was calmed, averting any consequences for the victim's safety.
