Traffic on the ring road
Naples – A dawn of traffic and tense nerves greeted dozens of drivers on the Naples ring road this morning. The reason? A construction site set up at the entrance to the "Vomero Est" tunnel, near the exit to the hospital area, which reopened the lanes significantly later than usual.
According to the reconstruction, the nighttime work—scheduled for routine maintenance of the section—should have concluded around 5:00 a.m., as is standard for this type of work. Instead, reopening was delayed well after 6:00 a.m., causing long lines and traffic jams that primarily affected workers heading for morning shifts.
The critical point was near the "Vomero Est" tunnel, where cars were stopped for interminable minutes, with knock-on effects on local traffic and the hospital exit. Many road users reported inconvenience due to the wait, exacerbated by the concentration of traffic at an already sensitive time of day.
In recent days, several night-time construction sites have been scheduled on the Naples ring road (A56) for the maintenance of tunnels and junctions, with closures generally scheduled between 23pm and 6am. The affected sections include the Capodimonte tunnels (east and west), Vomero west and other sections of the A56.
