Naples: A street brawl followed by an assault on police officers leaves one arrested and one charged.

Naples – What unfolded Saturday evening in the Via Foria area almost resembled an impromptu boxing match. Two men were punching each other in the street, while a large crowd of people gathered around them.

Some attempted to separate the two combatants, others watched the scene as if it were a spectacle, and some even took out their cell phones to film the brawl. The tense situation did not go unnoticed by officers from the San Carlo Arena police station, who were patrolling the area.

The intervention of the Flying Squad

The police officers, passing along Via Alfano, at the corner of Vico Minutoli, noticed the group and immediately intervened, fearing that the situation could escalate and turn into a public order and safety issue.

At that moment, there were two people present and they raised the alarm by radio. The Police Headquarters operations center then dispatched a patrol from the General Prevention Office, which happened to be nearby at the time.

In the meantime, the officers had managed to separate the two men and keep them at a distance from the rest of the people present, among whom there could have been friends or acquaintances of the contenders.

With the arrival of reinforcements, the situation finally seemed to have returned to normal. Fortunately, the fight had just begun, and neither man needed hospital treatment.

The second round against the agents

It was at that point that the situation took a new and unexpected turn.

Francesco Rosalba, 44, already known to law enforcement and a resident of the area, continued to behave aggressively. According to the reconstruction, the man provoked and then attacked the police officers, punching them several times.

The officers managed to subdue him, and Rosalba was arrested on suspicion of resisting a public officer. The officers at the San Carlo Arena police station also reported him for assaulting a public officer.

However, the legal proceedings did not end with the arrest of the 44-year-old. The man with whom he had had the violent argument was also charged.

The man is a 43-year-old local man who will now have to answer for his responsibilities in relation to the brawl.

An evening that began with an argument between two men and escalated, within minutes, into a police intervention and an arrest. This sequence brought to light the difficulty for officers conducting patrols in calming situations that can quickly spiral out of control.
