The Mazzarella clan's involvement in fuel smuggling: three arrests and a massive seizure.

legally charged with tax evasion of nearly €8 million. The Mazzarella clan was implicated.
The lucrative fuel smuggling business in Campania passed directly through the hands of the Mazzarella clan.

This is what emerged from a complex investigation conducted by the Guardia di Finanza of Caserta and coordinated by the Naples District Anti-Mafia Directorate (first area, led by Deputy Prosecutor Sergio Amato).

The operation led to the issuance of three precautionary measures: two suspects are facing charges of criminal conspiracy to smuggle energy products, aggravated by mafia-related crimes, while a third individual is directly charged with Camorra-type criminal conspiracy.

Escape to Greece and surrender in Secondigliano

Among the key figures in the investigation is one of the suspects who, having received a European arrest warrant, had managed to evade detection for about a month by taking refuge in Greece.

The escape ended on August 25, when the man decided to voluntarily turn himself in to the Naples-Secondigliano prison.

The network of compliant distributors

The judicial police's investigative activities uncovered a well-structured criminal organization with deep roots in the Campania region. The network was able to communicate and interface with multiple suppliers, both within the national market and within European Union countries.

Once smuggled fuel arrived on the territory, it was systematically stored and distributed using a strategic network of compliant depots and fuel plants.

Tax fraud numbers

The final outcome of the operation shows impressive figures in terms of volumes moved and the economic damage caused: the Guardia di Finanza (Fiamme Gialle) sealed over 133 liters of fuel found in the organization's possession.

The accounting investigations also uncovered a significant tax evasion case, estimated at just under 8 million euros, linked to the completely illegal importation of over 10 million liters of energy fuel.
