Saint George. Just a few drops of water yesterday were enough, a few drops of water that fell only in the upper part of San Giorgio a Cremano and San Sebastiano al Vesuvio to immediately create several rivers that carried waste and excrement of all kinds downstream, blocking several roads.
On social media, photos of the watercourses created in some streets including via Patacca, via Mazzini, Cupa San Michele and via Sant'Anna have created general indignation as if one were witnessing something incredible and unexpected. However, the phenomenon has occurred punctually after every rainfall for 14 years to date as reported by the “Committee for the Problem of Via Patacca”, an apolitical committee of citizens who came together to denounce and try to find a solution to the long-standing problem.
During even short rains, the committee reports, sudden and sometimes violent watercourses are created that not only prevent citizens from being able to travel the streets but also hinder car traffic and force residents to stay indoors. People are forced to stay indoors for their safety until the sudden river has exhausted its fury. However, even when the water has flowed away, the road remains impassable due to the waste and excrement that the watercourse will have left along its path.
During these rains, in fact, the watercourse, coming from San Sebastiano al Vesuvio, narrows along via Patacca, increasing its intensity. On these occasions, piles of garbage are dragged downstream together with feces and dirt of all kinds that come out of the clogged sewers. It is even rumored that during these rains some citizens take advantage of this to empty their septic tanks in the street.
After this latest episode, despite the public complaints and reports, the citizens' exasperation remains in the face of a problem that is still unsolved, exasperation that gives rise to satire against the municipal administration led by Zinno, guilty of never having resolved these problems.
