Camorra in Scafati: the investigation into the struggle between clans for control of illicit business has led to the issuing of 21 precautionary measures today.
Intimidating acts against commercial activities for the 'pizzo' and the control of the territory in Scafati. This is the scenario of an investigation by the district anti-mafia directorate of Salerno that led the investigating judge to issue 13 precautionary measures in prison and another eight with the benefit of house arrest.
The alleged crimes are mafia-style criminal association, extortion, illegal possession and carrying of common weapons and weapons of war, private violence and illicit competition with threats and violence, all crimes burdened by mafia purposes. The restrictive measures were also carried out in some penal institutions where some of the suspects are detained. The Carabinieri, in notifying them, also carried out searches of 11 suspects, recipients of information of investigation.
The investigation began in mid-2017, after a series of damages to bars, tobacconists and gaming rooms in Scafati Nel Buonocore-Matrone clan, Giuseppe Bonocore, 47 years old, son-in-law of a historic local boss, Francesco Matrone, called Franchino 'the beast, prisoner under the 41 bis regime, after being released from prison at the end of 2016, he reorganised the gang, consolidating it and allying himself with people who had already been orbiting his father-in-law's group for some time, including Ferdinand Cyril, 61 years old, who for the investigators had an authority in criminal circles and was the most valuable contribution to the Buonocore project.
The group was involved in arms trafficking, in the control of the slot machine sector and in extortion both through the payment of bribes and by imposing supplies and services, especially gaming machines. In this context, rivalry and even a clash with two other pre-existing groups in the area arose, the Loreto-Ridosso and Cesarano of Castellammare di Stabia, long-standing or influential on the local criminal scene. Thus began a series of attacks with rudimentary explosive orders or shots fired at commercial activities or homes, such as that of Giuseppe Buonocore, some never reported.
The rivalry with the Cesarano it faded after he became its regent Vincenzo, cousin of Ferdinando, historical clan leader, in April 2017. In some way the Cesaranos have recognized the territorial prerogatives of the Buonocore-Matrone also thanks to the mediation of Cirillo. In addition to environmental and telephone interceptions, statements from extortion victims who reported or admitted what was happening contributed to the investigation.
Be are the extortions attempted or consumed attributable to the Cesaranos in Scafati, Castellammare di Stabia and Pompeii, 12 those attributed by investigators to Buonocore-Matrone in Scafati (only one in Santa Maria la Carita') and 3 those ai Loreto- Ridosso. During the investigation, two suspects were also arrested; searches were carried out; two pistols were seized; a paper bomb; material for making explosive devices and drugs; but also precautionary detention measures were taken against six people, including Giuseppe Buonocore. These interventions, according to the Salerno prosecutor's office, have substantially stopped the clan's rise.
