Ciarambino: “The partial closure, in recent days, of the Pediatrics, Neurology and Orthopedics departments of the hospital St. Paul of Naples is an alarm bell that cannot go unheard.
We know well that the solutions identified immediately, to avoid that in certain time slots citizens find the doors closed, are only a palliative. We are talking about a hospital in which the operating room closes at 13 pm and from which the head of Orthopedics, after having denounced for months, unheard, the serious shortage of orthopedists (just 3 for 24 hours), was forced to resign.
Resorting to extraordinary shifts and additional services cannot be a definitive solution. We must act with structural interventions and measures, to avoid that with the summer and the sacrosanct right to holidays of health personnel, a serious emergency situation arises again, with the risk of causing the collapse of a health system that is dealing everywhere with an atavistic shortage of personnel".
This was stated by the vice-president of the Regional Council of CAMPANIA and M5S group leader Valeria Ciarambino, who this morning took part in the sit-in called by the Nursind union in front of the San Paolo hospital.
"The risk - added Ciarambino - is to further inflate a Cardarelli where in the past weeks there was not even room for stretchers. I have already proposed as a stopgap solution to divert to San Paolo possibly underutilized personnel from those hospitals of the same ASL, which have had their Emergency Rooms closed for some time.
San Paolo is a fundamental reference structure and already in recent weeks the closure of the Emergency Room has been threatened several times, which would have devastating effects on the entire emergency-urgency system. In the next few days - concluded the M5S group leader - I will ask to meet the general director of the ASL Napoli 1 Centro, Ciro Verdoliva, to identify together appropriate and definitive solutions so that the Fuorigrotta hospital can return as a center of excellence as soon as possible".
