Ischia. Over the last few days, military personnel from the Maritime District Office of Ischia, under the coordination of the Maritime Directorate of Campania, has implemented a targeted surveillance activity in the field of fishing.
The checks carried out within the territory of the island of Ischia have had
as primary objectives the prevention and repression of illegal activities along the entire fishing chain, from the capture to the landing of the fish product, up to the subsequent phases of transport and marketing, with particular attention to the verification of the information that must accompany this product in each commercial phase - so-called traceability - to the repression of the phenomenon of marketing of fish products in the juvenile state, to the failure to comply with the rules on correct information to the final consumer and compliance with the regulations on the conservation and expiry of the fish product.
During the checks, administrative sanctions were imposed on
restaurateurs, for a total of 4.500 euros and the seizure of approximately 40 kg of fish products of unknown origin, i.e. untraceable, therefore lacking all the documentation certifying the provenance and the method of capture.
The control activity, carried out by personnel belonging to the Port Authority Corps - Coast Guard, pursues the objective of protecting the final consumer, so that he can make an informed consumption of the fish product he buys from authorized retailers or consumes in restaurants, also preserving the fish resource from illegal fishing which represents one of the causes of the inexorable impoverishment of marine fauna.
