"Unfortunately in Naples pizza cannot be sold for 13-15 euros, it is more difficult, even if it should be this way because Naples is the home of pizza and here it should be sold more expensive than elsewhere but we adapt to the city market".
Speaking is Antonio Pace, president of the Verace Association Pizza Napoletana, on the occasion of the joint hearing of the permanent regional council commissions for Work and Productive Activities and Agriculture convened following the controversy of the last few days regarding the cost of pizza in some well-known restaurants in the north. Also present at the hearing were representatives of the Neapolitan Pizza Makers Association and Pizza Village.
According to Pace, the controversy has focused attention on "a false problem and the case was created ad hoc for publicity" and added: "In the North they have different costs, higher. Let's not talk about the cost of the product which is absolutely irrelevant compared to the selling price. It is necessary to talk about all the side effects, the additional costs which in the South are lower except for labor whose contract is national".
And precisely with respect to the tendency to believe that in Naples and the South employment contracts are not applied properly, Pace stated: "It's absurd, contracts are applied in Naples as in other places, but as in Naples sometimes they are derogated, this also happens elsewhere because not everyone is good and not everyone is bad. I believe that everyone in their company, respecting all the rules, must be able to create a sales price, but many times there is no ability to calculate a fair sales price keeping all the costs in mind and therefore someone sells a bit at a loss without realizing it".
