Salerno. A 47-year-old man who had been missing since yesterday in a running race in Eboli was found dead.
The body was found by technicians from the Campania Alpine and Speleological Rescue Service together with volunteers from the Dedalo Mountain Rescue Service of Giffoni Valle Piana along a slope.
The search for FG, a 47-year-old from Salerno, began yesterday evening when the man, one of the participants in the Trail dei Monti Ebolitani, a running event, disappeared while running the last kilometre of the route.
The organizers of the event immediately sent out the alarm to the Carabinieri who forwarded it to the National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps of Campania. This morning, during a search, the Cnsas technicians found an artifact that directed them to an area under some walls, the last stretch of the race.
The area is particularly impervious and in fact the event regulations recommended not running on that stretch. The body of the 47enne, who probably slipped right at that point, was found a hundred meters further down the slope.
After receiving authorization from the competent magistrate for the removal of the body, the recovery operations began, in which the Eboli Civil Protection, the Fire Brigade and the Eboli Carabinieri also participated.
