Naples, Maura Striano appointed municipal councilor for Education. She is currently a professor of General and Social Pedagogy at the Department of Humanistic Studies of the University of Naples Federico II.
With a special decree, the mayor of Naples Gaetano Manfredi has appointed Professor Maura Striano as the new Councilor for Education of the Municipality of Naples. Striano comes from the world of school: she was a psychopedagogical coordinator and a support teacher, and she taught at the Pozzuoli Women's Prison and at the Vittorio Emanuele II Boarding School.
She is currently a full professor of General and Social Pedagogy at the Department of Humanistic Studies of the University of Naples Federico II, as well as a PhD in Educational Sciences (University of Perugia) and a Fulbright Alumna (Montclair State University).
“A choice in full continuity with the extraordinary work carried out by Mia Filippone who has left an indelible mark in the field of education and instruction in the city: Professor Striano has the task, which she will be able to best perform by virtue of her experience as a teacher at school and then at the University, of continuing along the path traced by Filippone during her months as a municipal councilor”, the mayor explained Manfredi.
"I had the opportunity to collaborate with Filippone as an expert on some of the projects she implemented and I am aware of the challenges that await us shortly in the post-pandemic scenario. The guidelines, drawn up by Mayor Manfredi in continuity with the past, will all be aimed at promoting social inclusion, reducing truancy, and implementing the numerous projects financed by the PNRR to make school facilities more efficient and reduce social and territorial gaps.
In fact, among the priorities is the full and widespread application of the Educational Pact signed by the Municipality together with the Curia of Naples and all the other institutional bodies involved at national and local level", added the new councilor Striano.
Striano's professional career in the education sector is long and complex, with particular attention to interventions aimed at social inclusion. In fact, she teaches General Pedagogy in the three-year degree course in Psychological Sciences and Techniques, in which she also holds the title of the Laboratory for the design and evaluation of educational intervention in contexts of deviance and marginality.
As part of the master's degree course in Coordination of educational services for early childhood and social distress, she teaches Pedagogy of deviance and marginality. She also directs the University Center for Active and Participatory Inclusion of Students (Sinapsi) and is a delegate of the University Federico II and a member of the Steering Committee of the Interuniversity Research Center for Youth, Education, Orientation (Geo) for the study of the condition of young people, the organization of educational institutions and orientation.
