Casagiove, Vozza: 'A mural to the De Rege Brothers in the square of the same name'
The countdown is about to end for the final evening of the 'Fratelli De Rege- Città di Casagiove' Cabaret Award, which will be held on Sunday 11 September in the courtyard of the Quartiere Militare Borbonico.
Regarding the event, the mayor Giuseppe Vozza had the opportunity to declare: 'The De Rege Brothers, Guido born in Casagiove on January 30, 1891 and Giorgio born in Casagiove on August 26, 1894 were two great comic actors and promoters of modern cabaret, known especially in the first half of the last century. Of noble origins, sons of Alessandro Derege Di Donato, Infantry Officer and Giuseppina Pantaloni, Countess, they were born in our city, when their father, a career soldier, was stationed in Casagiove at the current QMB. The two followed an artistic career not shared by their family, indeed, at times hindered. They were the most famous vaudeville couple between the two wars. To strengthen that bond of belonging between Casagiove and the De Rege, with the aim of corroborating the historical memory of these two great comedians born in our city, we decided to sponsor the initiative promoted by Enzo Varone, an artist of great depth who created the cabaret award dedicated to these two emblematic figures of Italian comedy. Precisely to adequately recall the De Rege duo, in addition to the award of the same name, this administration has named the former Fiera Mercato settimanale square after them; furthermore, in the near future, always in the Piazza De Rege, we will create a mural that commemorates the two artists. I trust in the success of the event, aware of the professionalism and ability of the organization, coordinated by Enzo Varone.
Gennaro Caiazzo, city councilor with responsibility for culture, also underlined the importance of this event: 'The award named after the De Rege Brothers is a prestigious and excellent event for the City in the artistic and cultural panorama of Terra di Lavoro and Casagiovese, already rich in initiatives among which Artestate stands out. An event for which there is widespread expectation due to the liveliness and quality of the participants and the great organizational imagination that Enzo Varone dedicates to it.
Now in its 13th edition, the De Rege Award consolidates and becomes a traditional cornerstone to which the Municipal Administration devotes attention and availability so that it maintains its value and improves by expanding its sphere of attraction and general attention. Personally, I am happy and proud to have witnessed the birth and evolution of the initiative over time, a heartfelt thanks goes to Enzo Varone who has always believed in it and never gave up even when everything seemed difficult and the horizon was cloudy. I am convinced that it will be a great collective celebration to be able to attend a show of great depth in the beautiful historical setting of the Bourbon Military Quarter.
One initiative after another, this kermesse dedicated to our great and inimitable fellow citizens De Rege has become a privileged observatory on comedy, and for us it is a great pride to be able to offer an opportunity to new talents of this difficult, ancient, fascinating, essential art to life. A thank you goes to the Mayor and the City Council who believed in and supported this important event and to Councilor Pietro Menditto who together with me shares the work done and collaborates with intelligence and passion so that between art and city there remains a strong and shared bond that is civilization and common feeling, as well as general enrichment of culture and smile, which together make life better.
Admission will be free until all available seats are filled.
