Lonely Elderly Couple Offers Hospitality for New Year's Eve Dinner
The two spouses from the province of Avellino: “We have little, but many don’t even have that.”
“We open our home to those who are alone like us.” This is the invitation extended by Anna Scocco and Gennaro Russo, husband and wife, both over sixty, to those in need who will be forced to spend New Year's Eve alone.
From Forino, in the province of Avellino, where they live, they contacted the television station Telenostra to be helped – Anna explained – to find guests to spend New Year's Eve together at the table. The couple, who lost a son at a young age a few years ago, has not given up on the pain and in their own small way compensates for that loss with small acts and gestures of help and solidarity even if they are not rolling in gold.
They are in poor health and live in a council house with their only income coming from the social pension granted to both of them.
“I think our son – Anna explained to the TV microphones – he would be proud and happy with the little we do for others. We have little but we see every day how many people don't even have that."
“In this time of fear, often exploited and manipulated – comments on the story the director of the soup kitchen of the Caritas of Avellino, Don Vitaliano Della Sala- It’s a lesson that defeats fear with a simple and powerful argument: welcome to my home whoever you are.”
