Director Pietro Marcello presents Le Vele Scarlett at Ricciardi. The film is set in the period between the two World Wars and tells how women's emancipation evolved during these twenty years.
After the resounding reception at the Cannes Film Festival, Pietro Marcello arrives at the Teatro Ricciardi to present Le Vele Scarlett. The film – screened with the director in the theater on Sunday 15 at 18.00:XNUMX p.m. – inaugurated the prestigious Quinzaine des Réalisateurs section of the international festival.
The film is set in the period between the two World Wars and tells how women's emancipation evolved during these twenty years, characterized by great innovations and changes. Somewhere in the north of France, Juliette (Juliette Jouan), a young motherless girl, lives with her father, Raphaël (Raphaël Thiéry), a soldier who survived the First World War. Passionate about music and singing, Juliette meets a sorceress who predicts her future and confesses that the scarlet sails will take her away from her village.
“The director from Caserta is today one of the most interesting expressions of Italian cinema – says Francesco Massarelli – and his talent was immediately recognized by all the major international festivals that competed for his works, both documentary and fiction. As Caserta natives, we were lucky enough to be able to follow him from the very beginning and now it is a great emotion to be able to celebrate his international success”.
The artistic director of the Capua cinema has followed the artist from his first works such as Il passaggio della linea (filmed entirely on board the express trains that cross Italy from north to south) and La bocca del lupo, the touching story of Mary and Enzo, the film that won the 2009 Turin Film Festival.
After the story of Bella e perduta, shot entirely in the Carditello palace, Pietro Marcello arrives in Venice both as a juror and as a presenter accompanying the documentary Il silenzio di Pelesjan and a short dedicated to Marco Bellocchio on the occasion of the Leone alla carriera to the Maestro from Piacenza. In 2019 his film, Martin Eden, is in competition at the Biennale di Cinema and won the Coppa Volpi for Luca Marinelli; while the screenplay written together with Maurizio Braucci wins the David di Donatello.
Scarlet Sails is the first film shot entirely in France that brought the director international fame.
