In the Neapolitan neighborhood of Pianura, from today there is a school named after Giancarlo Siani, a young journalist killed by the Camorra in 1985 for his investigative work to shed light on organized crime trafficking. At the entrance of the school 'Don Giustino Russolillo' the dedication of the complex to the memory of Giancarlo Siani.
"Today we leave here forever a little piece of Giancarlo - said his brother, Paolo Siani - naming a school after the innocent victims of the Camorra is of enormous importance because it tells the story of the mafia from the side of the defeated and I remember well how difficult naming a school after a victim of the Camorra was twenty years ago. Today instead we mark a point in our favor thanks to the work that has been carried out in these years. These actions are important not only in Naples, but also far from here because they allow us to tell the story of Giancarlo and his investigative journalism".
“Naming a school after Giancarlo – underlined the Councilor for Education of the Municipality of Naples, Maura Striano – and doing it at this time and in this territory means sending a clear and strong message: the school is a bulwark of legality and people's ideas can pass through the baton that is handed over to young people. Today's young journalists can and must tell this territory in a different way and can also redeem the territory through their young, attentive, curious and critical gaze. And it is precisely in this direction that the commitment of the 'newly-born' Siani school goes”.
“Pianura is a neighborhood that has been going through a critical situation from a criminal point of view for months – declared the Councilor for Legality Antonio De Iesu – But the answers have been there with more than 40 arrests a few months ago. There is certainly still a lot to do, everyone must do their part. We are here also for this, it is a strong title that serves to sensitize the kids on the concept of responsibility and solidarity with great effectiveness for which today we are proud as a municipal administration to be here”.
"This is an extremely delicate territory - underlined the school principal, Mariaroberta Gregorini - that needs hope and especially our kids need it, who must be able to believe in dreams. Dedicating our school to Giancarlo Siani means believing in truth and legality, values that are built on the school desks and with the synergy with families. From today we want to shout out loud to the neighborhood: let's build the future together in the wake of legality"
