They steal an expensive Rolex of a few tens of thousands of euros in Rome but are checked, discovered and reported by the Highway Police on the A1 while returning home to Naples.
It happened on the Caserta stretch of the Autostrada del Sole, near the town of Casagiove; a patrol of the Caserta Nord Highway Police Subsection, during surveillance operations, checked a car carrying two people from Naples with previous convictions for property crimes.
Their anxious attitude prompted the officers to search the vehicle; a white gold Rolex Daytona, worth approximately 45.000 euros, two Bluetooth earphones, two pairs of gloves and two mini-cell phones were found in a cavity.
Quick checks later revealed that a similar watch had been stolen a few hours earlier from a person in Rome, on Cristoforo Colombo.
The two men were reported for theft. In recent months, the Caserta Highway Police led by Ludovico Mitilini has intensified checks on the long Caserta stretch of the A1, arresting numerous robbers and swindlers of the elderly coming from "trips" to the Center and the North.
