The Provincial Command of Naples has executed, against a Neapolitan company active in the import and marketing of motorcycle accessories, a preventive seizure order, issued by the GIP of the Court of Naples at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Naples - Second Section, of motorcycle helmets that do not comply with the approval requirements set by Community legislation.
Specifically, the seizure, carried out by the military of the II Naples Group, concerns “modular”, “demi-jet” and “jet” helmets, of which over 3.600 were found in the warehouses of the importing company, while another 869 were found in the offices of 43 unsuspecting Italian commercial retailers present in nine Regions, distributed throughout the national territory, to whom they had been sold.
The seizure was the result of technical investigations ordered by the Neapolitan Public Prosecutor's Office, which revealed the existence of a risk to the safety of helmet users, since their characteristics were found not to comply with the safety specifications prescribed by European approvals.
The legal representative and the de facto administrator of the manufacturing company, both from the province of Naples, are being investigated for alleged fraud in public supplies, since part of the seized materials had been sold to a Public Administration, as well as for fraud in the exercise of trade.
