Sunday 28 May from 10am to 18pm in the Villa Comunale of Trecase the technical-scientific meeting on the Vesuvian flora
Broom, orchid, myrtle and black locust. These are just some of the extraordinary flora specimens of the protected area of the Vesuvius National Park. And the Municipalities around the volcano have for years boasted a primacy in floriculture at an international level.
To enhance the sector, offer citizens a technical-scientific but also practical insight into the beauty of the Vesuvian flora species, the Municipality of Trecase, led by the mayor and commissioner of the Vesuvius National Park Authority Raffaele De Luca, from an idea of the councilor for Events Programming Teresa Matrone, presents the first edition of «Show Garden Festival 2023» which will be held on Sunday 28 May from 10 am to 18 pm in the Villa Comunale in via Nuova Cirillo in Trecase.
The event was organized in synergy with: the Department of Agriculture of the Federico II University of Naples, the Vesuvius National Park Authority, Coldiretti, Coral Plant, Slow Food Vesuvio. The Villa Comunale will be adorned with spectacular floral compositions created by floriculturists and nurseries of the Vesuvius area. In this suggestive atmosphere, in the morning the scientific debates "Biodiversity and endangered species" and "Diversification of agriculture and social agriculture" will be held with the intervention of experts in the sector. After the greetings of the mayor Raffaele De Luca, in fact, the following will speak at the conference: professors Edgardo Filippone and Teresa Del Giudice, professors of the Department of Agriculture of the Federico II University; Dr. Maria Lionelli, president of Slow Food Vesuvio; Dr. Francesco Ambrosio, Coldiretti manager; Vincenzo Cirillo, councilor of the Metropolitan City of Naples with responsibility for the Promotion of the territory and Agriculture.
During the debate, we will address issues related to the biodiversity of the Vesuvian area, the glorious history of floriculture from the past to today, such as the decorations in the prestigious Villas of the Golden Mile, the species in danger of extinction and the techniques to save them, the institutional tools for the protection of biodiversity and the agricultural sector, the protection of typical local products and the valorization of agriculture as a driving force for economic and tourist development.
During the day there will be floral displays from various local farms such as: L'Oro del Vesuvio, Pianese, Garden Oltre il Verde by Raffaele di Palma. In addition, creative workshops will be set up for children by the florist Giuseppe Pinto, such as the creation of special flower bouquets. In addition, there will be displays of typical products from Vesuvius: from apricots to Piennolo tomatoes to prestigious wines. The oriental attractions curated by Raffaele Cacace are also fascinating.
“The floristic list of our Vesuvius National Park– says the mayor Raffaele De Luca- contains 906 different species, including 23 species of orchids alone. A very important heritage that must be preserved thanks to national protection laws and is one of the greatest riches of our land. Just like flowers in protected areas, those grown in nurseries in our territories must also be protected and preserved, in addition to returning to the center of economic development also based on agriculture. This is the reason for an event of this magnitude, especially with the presence of experts in the sector who shed light on the current state of the same, suggesting plans and strategies for recovery and enhancement”.
