The 'Cerchi dell'acqua' fountain created by the French artist Daniel Buren, who donated it to the city of Naples in 2004, has been given a new lease of life. The yellow, blue and light blue have returned to shine and will be admired not only by the many citizens who cross via Argine every day, a fundamental artery for the city's traffic and connection to the metropolitan area, but also by the cyclists who participate in the Giro d'Italia.
Tomorrow, May 11, in fact, the riders of the most famous two-wheeled race in Italy, during the sixth stage of the Giro, will pass right next to the Buren fountain that will greet them with its water games. The works, which began in April 2023, were carried out by the technicians and workers of Abc, a special company of the Municipality of Naples, which deals with the water cycle.
The inauguration was attended by the mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, the councilor Edoardo Cosenza, the president of Abc, Alessandra Sardu, and the general manager of the company, Sergio De Marco. “This fountain had been off for a long time – said the mayor, Gaetano Manfredi – and its recovery is also a symbol of the recovery of this territory.
There was the opportunity to have resurfaced the streets of this area where the Giro d'Italia will pass tomorrow and the Buren fountain will also be reopened to give a sign of work, commitment, attention towards this important neighborhood for Naples in which we have many investments that will start in the coming months to give a new face and new hope to the citizens".
“The ABC continues its work of restoring the city fountains – underlined the president, Alessandra Sardu – The company must increasingly serve the city not only through tasks related to the management of the integrated water system but also wants to contribute more and more to the redevelopment of areas and neighborhoods by carrying out, in accordance with its own skills, interventions aimed at improving urban decorum”.
