Ostia, May 30, 2023 – Great success for the volume of the Premio Penisola Sorrentina with the photos of the Ragusano Giuseppe Leone dedicated to the beauties of Campania. The Ostia stage is part of the national project dedicated to cities and the pleasure of reading on the centenary of the birth of Italo Calvino.
The photos are by a master of black and white from Ragusa, who over time has immortalized Sicily and its landscapes, accompanying writers such as Leonardo Sciascia, Vincenzo Consolo, Gesualdo Bufalino. This time, however, the landscapes and portraits by Giuseppe Leone are dedicated to Campania.
“Viaggio in Campania” (Plumelia Edizioni) is the photographic volume that triumphed at the 32nd Book and Reading Festival of Ostia, directed by Gianni Maritati and promoted by the Association that bears the name of Clemente Riva, a Rosminian bishop particularly attentive to culture and interreligious dialogue.
Testimonial of the volume is the actor Vincenzo Bocciarelli, coming from the school of Giorgio Strehler and Glauco Mauri. Bocciarelli himself is a writer and presented his volume: “Sulle ali dell'arte” to the public of the Book Festival.
The Sorrento Peninsula Award, in addition to “Viaggio in Campania”, participated in the Ostia event with another photographic volume: “Noi- Backstage dall'America a Napoli”, with photographs by Jessica Guidi (also present at the cultural morning in Ostia).
Both books, linked to the visual story of the Campania region, are the result of artistic residency projects and these journeys between secretly expressed cities are part of a special project that the Premio Penisola Sorrentina has launched to celebrate the centenary of the birth of Italo Calvino, through the pleasure of reading and the discovery-story of cities, including the "invisible" ones, to paraphrase the title of a famous work by the Italian-Cuban writer.
“To inspire our participation in the Ostia book festival – explains the owner Mario Esposito- it was not only the full coherence with the inspirational lines of our special project, but also a certain closeness of places of the soul. The initiative has in fact been organized for 32 years by the Association dedicated to Clemente Riva, a Rosminian witness linked by a deep friendship and a religious feeling of confraternity with our Antonio Riboldi, who was bishop of Acerra. At the center of this initiative are the book and reading, but once again we find above all hope and trust in man”.
