“Arpac was asked to do some analysis to assess whether there have been any spills because we have no evidence of any spills from the sewer system or from purification plants. If there have been any, they come from boats at anchor”.
Thus the mayor of Napoli, Gaetano Manfredi, regarding the greenish color that has been painting the sea of Naples from San Giovanni to Posillipo since yesterday. Manfredi also underlined that "it is most likely a phenomenon of algae efflorescence linked to the very high temperatures that lead to this extraordinary bloom that determines this greenish color".
Many citizens are continuing to send reports to the deputy of the Green-Left alliance Francesco Emilio Borrelli regarding the sea emergency in Naples. In the last hours the situations at Molosiglio and Borgo Marinari have been worrying.
“The reports we receive are multiplying day after day and we are waiting for the results of the Arpac analyses.” - declares Borrelli - “The areas where the water appears more cloudy, greenish and dirty present various problems already during the rest of the year and, obviously, in the summer season these grow exponentially.
Too much waste is floating on our sea, too many illegal dumpings both from land and sea. Our coastline must be defended in every way and with all our strength. We must not only remember this during the summer season. Sea pollution here is largely linked to incivility and illegal dumping against which we continue to do too little. In any case, we await the response of Arpac, which we have already alerted.
The sea is not just a postcard to show to tourists but also, above all, a precious natural resource and not protecting it means compromising the inert marine ecosystem.
