Pain and dismay in Camposano, in the province of Napoli, from which Aniello Rozza was born, the 67-year-old man who died yesterday in a road accident on the state road 18 Tirrena Inferiore, together with his wife, Virgilia Iovino, 65, and his mother, Santina Di Riggi, 91.
As Il Mattino reports, exactly thirty years ago, on July 2, 1993, Rozza escaped the attack at the Mogadishu pasta checkpoint. He, an Italian helicopter pilot, was on a mission for the UN.
On his Facebook profile page he is portrayed near a helicopter while there are several photos of him that recall his mission activities. Rozza was in Agropoli, in Cilento, where he spent his summer holidays with his wife.
Yesterday he was on his way to the hospital because his elderly mother had taken ill. The car, at a roundabout, crashed into a guard rail and there was nothing that could be done for the three. Rozza and his mother died instantly, his wife during transport in the ambulance.
