He is Vincenzo La Porta, 60 years old from Napoli believed to be close to the Contini clan, part of the criminal cartel called “Alliance of Secondigliano".
The Carabinieri of the Naples investigative unit never gave up and waited for him to make a false step. Through web patrolling, they scanned his social media and financial movements, carrying out traditional and technical investigations.
Then they found him, on the Greek island of Corfu. His passion for football and for Napoli. With the victory of the championship, La Porta couldn't help but celebrate. The carabinieri recognized him in a photo taken at the front of a restaurant. He was wearing a baseball cap, with a blue scarf in his hands.
After a long series of investigations and tailings, carried out with the invaluable collaboration of the Greek police forces, the carabinieri stopped him on the street, while he was riding his scooter.
The investigations, conducted by the soldiers of the Investigative Unit of the Provincial Command of Napoli under the direction of Dr. Canaia of the Attorney General's Office at the Court of Appeal of Naples, they were supported in the executive part by the International Cooperation Service and the EU-funded @ON Network (ISF4@ON Project).
During his years on the run, the 60-year-old was sentenced in absentia, considered the promoter of a criminal organization dedicated for years to systematic tax evasion, tax fraud and fraud against foreign suppliers.
Over the years, the members of the association have managed to capture considerable market shares thanks to large supplies obtained against substantially non-existent guarantees. These were provided by penniless individuals or by fictitious companies, which, after being used for the purpose of mere fictitious interposition, were left to fail to the detriment of suppliers and creditors.
He will have to serve 14 years and 4 months in prison, pursuant to a prison order issued by the Attorney General's Office at the Court of Appeal of Naples. La Porta is now in a Greek prison, awaiting extradition.
