“We will immediately start, in collaboration with Arpac and the police, an accurate monitoring of the territory with blanket checks in industries, in private homes for illegal sewage discharges and periodic sampling of the waters of the river canals Sarno. We will not give discounts to anyone. Those who pollute will be punished."
Thus the deputy mayor of the Municipality of Scafati Teresa Formisano on the sidelines of the meeting on illegal dumping in the canals of the Sarno river held this morning at Palazzo Mayer. The deputy mayor Pasquale Aliberti met with the director of the provincial department Arpac Salerno, Caterina Scarpa. Also present, among others, were the councilors Diego Chirico and Antonella Di Palma.
"We reiterated to Arpac officials - said Formisano - the need to start a shared, strong and incisive action to combat the phenomenon of illegal dumping in the Sarno River, whose environmental impact is truly devastating. We have the obligation to protect our community by safeguarding the right to health of the citizens of Scafati. For this there is no time to waste.
We have asked Arpac officials, whom I thank for their availability and collaboration, to activate a series of joint checks throughout the territory, also availing ourselves of the support of the police forces. The objective is to track down the phenomenon of illegal discharges, identifying the criminals who discharge, polluting and defacing our environmental heritage.
We will proceed step by step, through constant monitoring of the territory, blanket checks not only in industries but also in private homes to detect any illegal sewage discharges and periodic sampling of canal waters, starting from the right Controfosso. We obviously need everyone's collaboration. We ask the citizens of Scafati to make the maximum effort so that they can report any spills to us. Everyone's health is at stake".
