Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has been entered into the register of suspects in Rome for false accounting charges. The investigation was launched after documents were sent regarding the purchase of striker Victor Osimhen in 2020 from French club Lille.
The prosecutors of the Rome Public Prosecutor's Office proceeded to register the suspects following the transmission of the documents by the Neapolitan prosecutors. In June 2022, on the mandate of the Neapolitan prosecutors, the Guardia di Finanza had seized the documents relating to the purchase of the Nigerian footballer, together with searches carried out in Castel Volturno, Rome and in France.
This is a proceeding related to alleged fictitious capital gains that would involve the purchase of Osimhen. The Napoli president is therefore at the center of an investigation for false accounting, a very serious accusation that could have significant legal consequences.
It is important to underline that the registration in the register of suspects is a mandatory act, a standard procedure in case of sending documents by the prosecutors.
This does not automatically imply guilt, but simply the fact that De Laurentiis is involved in the investigation as an interested party. It will now be up to the judiciary to ascertain whether there are concrete elements to support the accusation of false accounting.
In the meantime, the president of Napoli will have to deal with this delicate legal situation that will cast a shadow on his figure and on the image of the club.
