A citizen sent Francesco Emilio Borrelli, a member of the Green Left Alliance, a photo showing an open grave, with a fallen tombstone left on the ground, right at the entrance to the Poggioreale cemetery.
The area around the tombstone was awkwardly cordoned off with red and white tape also tied to a garbage can. “I often go to the Poggioreale cemetery and it’s not the first time I find myself in front of an open grave,” said Ciro, who reported the incident to Deputy Borrelli.
“Usually this happens in the less frequented areas of the cemetery, but this time the fact is there for all to see, just 50 meters from the entrance. When I saw the open niche next to me there were several people, equally disgusted by what happened, even children. The absurd thing is that the niche is located right on the main avenue, the one that everyone walks along entering from Via del Riposo to reach the tombs of their loved ones,” concluded Ciro.
“What happened is an outrage. I have long been denouncing the state of degradation and abandonment of the Poggioreale cemetery. A serious and decisive intervention by the Municipality of Naples is needed to clean up the entire area, free it from the crime and illegal parking attendants that plague it, and invest to give the cemetery the decorum it deserves. Those who go to Poggioreale to say goodbye to their loved ones cannot find themselves faced with similar scenes. The burial niche should be repaired as soon as possible and if anyone was negligent, they should be identified and punished”.
With these words Francesco Emilio Borrelli, deputy of the Green Left Alliance, commented on what was reported at the Poggioreale cemetery.
