Bread in the street, for those who are hungry, for those who are alone, for those who love each other. Sunday 15 October, 5 Franciscan soup kitchens of the national network of Operation Bread They open their doors to distribute fresh bread in the streets. “We want to share bread with everyone – explains the friar Giampaolo Cavalli, director of the Antoniano – to remind us that only together and through sharing can we overcome poverty”.
The Franciscan soup kitchens of Operation Bread, on the initiative of the Antoniano of Bologna, celebrate World Bread Day and World Poverty Day, which fall on 16 and 17 October. More than 60 friars and volunteers of Roma, Milan, Bologna, Turin and Cava dei Tirreni (Salerno) will be near soup kitchens and churches on Sunday, October 15, and will distribute over 3.000 loaves of bread.
“Bread is home, love, care. It is sharing. Breaking bread, sharing it with those around us means recognizing ourselves as part of a single family, recognizing ourselves as brothers and sisters. It means saying “welcome, welcome, you are at home here”. It is what we do every day in our soup kitchens, welcoming those who are fragile and alone. We do it on Jesus’ invitation: give yourselves something to eat” continues Brother Cavalli.
The event and all the activities of the Operazione Pane soup kitchens are also possible thanks to the Piccolo Coro dell'Antoniano and the world of Zecchino d'Oro. Antoniano is, in fact, the place where music becomes bread: the children of the choir and the young soloists of Zecchino d'Oro, with their voices and their joy, contribute to the soup kitchen activities, to guarantee a meal to those who have nothing to eat.
A concrete example of what music can do: giving bread to those who are hungry or lonely. And precisely to celebrate this spirit, the foundation of Antoniano, the 2023 edition of Zecchino d'Oro, broadcast on December 1,2, 3 and 1 on RaiXNUMX, will have as its title Music can. The Bakers Association of Bologna and its province will donate fresh bread that will be distributed in via Guinizelli as a gesture of solidarity and sharing to celebrate the World Day Against Poverty.
This collaboration represents a tangible sign of their sensitivity and attention to the value of bread as a symbol of rebirth and help towards others. Numerous bakers and cooks have joined the initiative. The event will also be an opportunity to open up to the entire community, to make known the activities of the soup kitchens and raise awareness of the importance of reaching out to those who can't make it and making those who are alone feel the warmth of a family.
