The doors of the Larino prison in Campobasso opened for Luigi Coviello, after only ten days of detention.
The forty-nine year old from the Libertà district of Benevento he was arrested on January 14, 2020, together with approximately fifteen other people, including Corrado Sparandeo known as Pinocchio, Stanislao Sparandeo known as Calvin Klein, Arturo Sparandeo known as Spollico, for belonging to the Samnite clan of the same name.
In reality, Luigi Coviello, defended by the lawyer Giuseppe Milazzo of the Nola court, was already acquitted in the first instance of the accusation of having been part of the association called the Sparandeo clan, so much so that the investigating judge of the Court of Naples Antonio Baldassarre, sharing the defense arguments, acquitted him of the crime of association, sentencing him to five years and four months of imprisonment only for an extortion episode to the detriment of the entrepreneur Luigi D'Agostino.
In the second degree the sentence was reduced to four years and five months. It must be said that Coviello, after about six months of imprisonment spent in prison, obtained house arrest, even, with the authorization to be able to work.
In fact, on October 19, the sentence for extortion aggravated by mafia having become final, the Attorney General of Naples had ordered his transfer to prison, but after only ten days he was released after having obtained the benefit of early release. Now in fact the man is free and no longer has to pay any debt to the State.
