Two young Neapolitans were arrested in connection with the disturbances that occurred during the Serie A match on Sunday evening between Sandro Abate and Napoli Futsal at the Palazzetto dello Sport “Giacomo Del Mauro” in Avellino.
A 30-year-old man was reported for brawling and damage, while another 25-year-old was reported to the judicial authorities.
The 30-year-old was stopped while trying to escape with the group of supporters, presenting wounds and bruises probably caused by the clashes. The 25-year-old said he was at the scene of the incident to watch the match and was not involved in the attack, but the authorities are verifying the veracity of his claims.
During the incidents, the police confiscated a baton and several cars parked in the square were damaged with poles and sticks.
The Neapolitan fans, who arrived by car in the parking lot of the sports hall, armed with sticks and poles, vandalized the parked cars, also attacking the motorists present in the area.
Within minutes, a group of Avellino ultras came out of the Paladelmauro, starting a violent brawl with the Neapolitan fans. The police barely managed to stop the contenders.
The police acquired the recordings from the surveillance cameras of the Paladelmauro and the surrounding areas to identify all the participants in the brawl. In total, about forty people, including Avellino fans, were involved.
Investigators are convinced that it was a premeditated action, taken to avenge the attacks suffered by Napoli fans last May during Napoli's championship celebrations in the streets of Avellino.
