From Liguria to Tuscany, from Lazio to Campania, from Friuli Venezia Giulia to Veneto, there are thousands of beach resorts, restaurants and coastal infrastructures seriously damaged or destroyed by the wind and strong storm surges of recent days that have not spared any coastal location – declared Antonio Capacchione, president of the Italian Beach Resort Union adhering to FIPE/Confcommercio.
We are assessing the damage suffered by 30.000 beach businesses and not only that, from a first estimate, we also exceed 100 million euros by far. Not counting those caused by the erosion of the coastlines, entire beaches have been literally wiped out, a phenomenon, unfortunately, that we know well and that has become extremely widespread and dangerous in recent years, for which we must find an effective solution as soon as possible”.
“Today it is unthinkable to repair or rebuild the structures in the absence of certainty about the future of the company – concluded Capacchione. This means that starting from the next summer season there is a real and concrete risk of a lack of beach services in many tourist destinations. Today, therefore, it is even more urgent for the Government to intervene on the issue of the duration of the current concessions”.
