Sentenced a month ago, he now has to answer for abuse of office. Antonio Del Giudice is also the regional vice-secretary of Fdi.
A month ago he was sentenced to a suspended sentence of four months for the theft of a bicycle, although the aggravating circumstance of racial discrimination was dropped. Now Antonio Del Giudice, mayor of Striano, risks a new trial for abuse of office and aggravated fraud.
The Torre Annunziata Public Prosecutor's Office (prosecutor Nunzio Fragliasso, deputy Bianca Maria Colangelo) has notified a notice of closure of investigations to the mayor of the small municipality in the Vesuvian area, who also holds the positions of regional vice-secretary of Fratelli d'Italia and vice-president of Anci Campania.
Also investigated for fraud alone - for being absent from the workplace - is the head of the Registry Office Vincenzo Cordella. The facts date back to November 2021, when Del Giudice - during the restrictions for the pandemic - on Sunday morning had himself photographed while removing some bicycles from the porticoes of the closed town hall.
The bikes belonged to some immigrants from Mali, hosted in a facility in the area, who had parked there to take the Circumvesuviana train and carry out their work as street vendors in Naples. Upon their return, however, the five Malian citizens could not find the bikes and one of them reported everything.
The Carabinieri of the Torre Annunziata company, then, during the investigation discovered that the bikes had been removed by the mayor. Del Giudice - it is the accusation - asked Cordella to transport the newest bicycle to the headquarters of his company, to have it repainted with the logo of the Municipality of Striano.
It all happened two days later, during the municipal employee's working hours. Now both will have 20 days to present defense briefs and request an interrogation, to try to avoid the request for indictment, for a story that is nothing short of singular.
