The teacher Luca Lupoli, tenore e musicologo di Napoli, sta per pubblicare un nuovo saggio dedicato a Pietro Metastasio, intitolato “The Melodrama of Pietro Metastasio: il Primato del Testo”.
This publishing project boasts the consultancy for bibliographic research of maestro Olga De Maio, a Neapolitan soprano. After the success achieved with the previous essay on Mario Persico, the two authors will soon present their new work in Naples and online. Luca Lupoli's essay offers an innovative perspective on the figure of Pietro Metastasio, exploring the author's emotional and private bond with music and melodrama.
Lupoli analyzes the correspondence of the famous poet and librettist, offering an alternative and in-depth reading of his work and its influence on music and opera. In particular, Lupoli's work explores the birth of melodrama and the importance attributed by Metastasio to the text compared to music, contributing significantly to the diffusion and improvement of opera.
Through a detailed bibliography and a clear exposition of his theses, Lupoli demonstrates his commitment to spreading the figure of Metastasio and his relevance in the eighteenth-century theatrical panorama.
The work also offers an in-depth look at Metastasio's personality and thought through his famous letters, allowing the reader to understand the author's personal and professional relationships, as well as his aesthetic ideas. Finally, Metastasio's service as a court poet to the Habsburgs in Vienna and his role as a poet-reformer in the literary-theatrical panorama of the time are explored.
