Yet another episode of threats and violence against 118 medical personnel in the province of Naples. It happened in Marano where, during an intervention, the ambulance team was threatened by the relatives of a patient who was about to be transported in red code to the San Giuliano hospital in Giugliano.
The complaint comes from the Nessuno Tocchi Ippocrate Association which on its Facebook page recounts the incident:
“Around 23:30 pm the Marano ambulance and the Qualiano medical car are alerted for a red code in Marano di Napoli, an unconscious person. In a few minutes the vehicles are on site, the patient is examined, stabilized and loaded onto the emergency vehicle heading to San Giuliano Hospital.
Suddenly, as the nurse is about to close the doors of the ambulance, two women accompanied by a man stop the operator's hand and exclaim: 'You have to take him to Cardarelli or we'll smash everything like this, move and do as I say!'.
The crew tries to explain in a good way that it was not possible to transport the patient to another ASL territory but that they had to go to the nearest emergency room because it was a red code. Naturally the ladies did not want to listen to reason, in fact one of them wanted to sneak into the ambulance.
The nurse and driver quickly close the doors and leave for San Giuliano with the doctor on board. During the journey, the emergency driver alerts the Giugliano mobile radio carabinieri who shortly after arrive at the hospital and identify the family members.
It almost came to physical violence, but this verbal aggression highlights the fact that it is not the users who choose the patient's destination but the operations center and the protocols. Learn!”.
