The municipality of Campagna is in mourning following a tragic road accident that claimed the lives of Cosimo Filantropia and two Carabinieri officers, Marshal Francesco Pastore and Corporal Francesco Ferraro. A third Carabinieri officer, Paolo Volpe, was injured in the accident.
The body of the pensioner Cosimo Filantropia, 75 years old from Campagna, is currently in the morgue of the Battipaglia hospital, where it has been placed under sequestration pending the autopsy. The mayor of Campagna, Biagio Luongo, expressed his deep sorrow for the loss of a friend and esteemed fellow citizen and proclaimed a day of mourning.
"I knew Cosimo; he lived in the historic center and had deep ties to the community. His passing, and that of the brave Carabinieri, leaves us shocked and saddened ," said Mayor Luongo. The mayor also extended his condolences to Filantropia's family, reiterating the entire community's support in this time of grief: "I hope tragedies like this never happen again. Campagna is preparing to experience another day of grief for the loss of one of its fellow citizens."
