Seismic swarm also on Vesuvius, shock in the evening of magnitude 2.1

Because the Vesuvius area also experienced a Sunday marked by a massive seismic swarm since the early hours of the day. In the afternoon, the earth also shook in the Portici area, with the epicenter located in that area.

The shock was recorded by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology at 18:06, with a magnitude of 2.1 and a depth of 8 km. Fortunately, the earthquake it was not significantly felt by the population and no damage has been reported at the moment.

Three strong seismic shocks occurred this morning between 9:44 and 10:01, with magnitudes of 3.7, 3.1 and 3.0 respectively, with their epicentre close to the Solfatara volcano, in the municipality of Pozzuoli.

The tremors were felt not only in the Phlegraean municipalities of Pozzuoli, Bacoli, Monte di Procida and Quarto, but also in the neighborhoods of the western area of ​​Naples, including Bagnoli and Fuorigrotta, as well as Pianura, Soccavo, up to Vomero and Arenella in the hilly area of ​​the city.

The seismic swarm began at 9:35 and the Vesuvius Observatory, the Neapolitan headquarters of the INGV, recorded about 90 earthquakes, of which 8 with a magnitude greater than 2.0 and 3 with a magnitude greater than 3.0. Fortunately, no damage to people or things was reported, as assured by the Fire Department.

The director of the Vesuvius Observatory, Mario Di Vito, explained that this seismic swarm falls within the bradyseismic dynamics. It is an ongoing phenomenon that is constantly monitored and must be faced with appropriate behavior, maintaining calm and avoiding panic.

Even the mayor of Pozzuoli, Gigi Manzoni, took to the streets after the tremors together with the Municipal Police officers to meet and reassure the citizens who had left their homes. He invited the population to remain calm, despite the warning of tremors, since no particular problems were recorded.
