The images captured by surveillance cameras at the Mandela Forum on Thursday evening are clear: an argument, a punch, and a fall down the stairs. That's how Antonio Morra , 47, originally from Naples but living in Pistoia, lost his life: he was attacked after the Subsonica concert at the Mandela Forum in Florence, at 11:30 PM on Thursday evening.
He was going down the stairs to smoke a cigarette with his wife when he apparently bumped into someone in a group. Eight people began arguing with him while his wife was away. A ninth person hit Morra in the head from behind, causing him to fall down the stairs. He was arrested on Saturday.
The wife, realizing what had happened, approached the group to understand what had happened and immediately raised the alarm. A video shows a stage dismantler, identifiable by the phosphorescent vest, hitting a person in the face, revealed to be Morra, who died shortly after in hospital.
Initially, it was said that there was a fight and a punch that caused Morra to fall. A few hours after the episode, a 48-year-old man, an employee of the external company in charge of setting up the stage, was arrested.
The incident occurred around 23.00:XNUMX p.m., when law enforcement officers intervened in the square inside the Mandela Forum following a report of a fight, which also involved armed people. A knife was also found, but it is not yet clear who it belonged to.
After being transported to Careggi Hospital in Florence, Morra died shortly thereafter. The arrested man, already known to the police, is charged with manslaughter.
The autopsy will determine the cause of Morra's death, whether it was the punch or the fall down the stairs. In the meantime, the group of workers who set up the event were questioned at the police station. The validation hearing for the 48-year-old is scheduled for tomorrow.
