Four new ones red areas to combat crime and urban decay: this is the measure adopted by the Prefecture of Naples, announced by the Oplonti Municipality via an official note.
The decision came at the end of the meeting of the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Security, held on Monday morning to address thesecurity emergency in the Vesuvian city. The mayor of Torre Annunziata, Corrado Cuccurullo, expressed satisfaction with the measure: "This is an important measure, which is part of the activities already started by the Prefect and law enforcement to curb crime. Security remains an absolute priority for our administration, and this decision represents a further step forward in the protection of citizens".

From March 19th to June 30rd the first three zones will be operational.
1 Zone: Via Prota, Via Caravelli, Via Gino Alfani and Corso Umberto (from the corner of Via Gino Alfani to Via Poerio); 2 Zone: Train station Torre Annunziata City and Piazza Nicotera; 3 Zone: Train station Torre Annunziata Central, Viale Manfredi and Piazza Imbriani. From April 1st, it will be activated fourth red zone, Located in Viale Marconi, the nerve centre of the summer nightlife.

The idea of red zones seems interesting but there are doubts about how this measure will be implemented. Let's hope it is not just a way to scare people without actually solving the crime problem.
It is a measure that could help improve safety, but I hope it will be implemented effectively. Citizens need to feel safe on their streets and not just with temporary measures.
