Eboli. In the head-on collision between two cars, an Opel Corsa and a Fiat Panda, which occurred this afternoon on the Strada Statale 18 Tirrena Inferiore, in the territory of Eboli, in the locality of Santa Cecilia, three elderly people lost their lives.
The victims are a couple in their 80s from Boscotrecase and an 80-year-old from Foggia. Their identities are not yet known.
The impact was violent and left no escape for the three people on board the cars. The rescuers, who arrived on the scene, could only confirm the death. The intervention of the firefighters was necessary to extract the bodies from the wreckage.
The officers of the Vallo della Lucania Highway Police and the Carabinieri of the Eboli Company intervened at the scene of the accident. The investigations are still underway to ascertain the dynamics of theaccidentIt cannot be ruled out that the head-on collision may have been caused by one of the two drivers feeling unwell.
Traffic disruptions
State Road 18 was closed to traffic in both directions to allow for rescue and survey operations. Subsequently, the road was reopened to alternating one-lane traffic, with heavy repercussions on traffic.
