Ischia, Gennaro Savio: “The responsibilities for the tragedy that almost happened at Rizzoli must be identified and condemned”

Ischia.

And this is because it so happened that the collapse occurred in the afternoon and not in the morning when the entrance hall is always packed with people. Once again we can say that we were lucky because, otherwise, today we would be here mourning the dead and wounded.

But is it possible that in a public place like the hospital where you go to get treatment and feel good, you risk coming out closed in a wooden coffin due to the collapse of a false ceiling? But does anyone really think they are joking with people's lives?

As if the chronic problems that plague the Lacco hospital were not enough, now we also have to worry about the dangerousness of part of the structure? How is it possible that the collapse of part of the attic and the false ceiling of the waiting room was not foreseen and avoided? What is the static situation of the attics of all the rooms of the “Rizzoli"?

While we wait for the reasons that led to the collapse to be shed light on, we publicly forward these questions to those responsible for ensuring that patients and users go to a hospital facility that is statically safe, especially considering that it is located in an area at risk of earthquakes and where any "oscillation" could be fatal.

The municipal administration of Lacco Ameno led by mayor Giacomo Pascale who was responsible for the unbearable and inhuman social shame of installing paid parking spaces for cars by flooding the outside of the hospital with blue lines thus penalizing users, patients, hospitalized patients and families.

What has he done in these years with the same determination, together with all the other local administrators, to demand from the ASL and the region a safe hospital structure in every department, in every area?

It almost seems like a paradox, not to say a nightmare, but while we await the expansion of the hospital so pompously promised and announced by the President of the Region Vincenzo De Luca with the laying of the first stone, while we await the hiring of new health personnel that will finally put an end to the shameful shortage of doctors and health workers.

While we swallow the false electoral promises of mayors and representatives of regional politics, while we wait for the Lacco hospital to emerge from the deep coma into which the island, regional and national politics have reduced it, we must also record the near tragedy due to the sudden collapse of a false ceiling: absurd.

Now what is necessary and what we strongly request is that the technical responsibilities for what happened be identified and immediately condemned.

As for the political responsibilities for the comatose state in which the “Rizzoli” finds itself, well, those are easily identifiable and, frankly, should be finally and definitively condemned by the islanders who should no longer give their electoral consent to the current and former island municipal, regional and government administrators, all united by the total interest of governing in the name and on behalf of collective interests.

Indeed, I hope that just as we communists have been for decades, who together with the late and combative Domenico Savio have always fought daily and continue to fight to ensure that everyone is guaranteed the full right to health, the people of Ischia are finally tired of the state of backwardness in which the only public hospital on the island finds itself.Ischia and the island's health system in general and decide to take to the streets so that everyone is guaranteed the full right to health.

In the meantime, I would like to publicly thank the doctors, nurses and administrative and healthcare employees who, despite everything, are still resisting on the hot front of the "Rizzoli" and who with their daily professional commitment continue to work to save human lives.
