The reason for the protest is the impossibility of freely accessing the beaches, due to the online booking system introduced by the Municipality.
Today the free beaches of Naples are already sold out for tomorrow. The available places have already run out at 15 pm yesterday. Those who have not booked in advance will not be able to access the beaches.
Activists announce forceful action
The activists of the “Mare libero e gratuito” committee announce that tomorrow they will “force” the rules, entering the beaches and asking to pass on the shoreline, as the law establishes. The protest will be held from 10:30 to 12:30 along the Posillipo establishments.
“Free beaches for all”
“We are protesting against the unacceptable resolution of the Municipality and the Central Tyrrhenian Sea Port System Authority that establishes the provision of the limited number and quotas for the already few free beaches in the city,” explains Giuliano Esposito of “Gaiola Libera”. “We want to give the sea back to the Neapolitans without restrictions”.
Dirty Beaches: Activists Clean Up
In addition to protesting against the reservation system, the activists of the committees will clean the public beaches, often abandoned. "Last year a thorough cleaning was done", they complain, "this year instead, when the gates open we find a lot of uncollected garbage".
The Municipality opens some beaches without limits
The Councillor for Marine Policies Edoardo Cosenza has announced that some beaches will be open without limits and suitable for swimming: the beach at Rotonda Diaz, at Largo Sermoneta, the small beaches at Ferdinando Russo and Marechiaro.
How to book Posillipo beaches
To access the public beaches of Posillipo, you must make a reservation the day before for the following day with entry by 13 pm. If you do not show up, the reservation automatically expires. You can make three reservations per week for the same person. Minors must be accompanied.
The battle for free beaches
The battle for the free beaches in Naples it has been going on for several years. Citizens complain that the few free beaches are often inaccessible due to the reservation system.
