A six-meter motorboat, an “open” model, sank this evening off the coast of Ischia, in the Castiglione a Casamicciola area.
The six occupants, who had rented the boat in Castel Volturno, were rescued by a yachtsman who was in the area. According to the castaways' testimonies, other yachtsmen present on the scene, instead of providing assistance, limited themselves to filming the accident with their smartphones.
The Ischia Coast Guard, under the command of Lieutenant Antonio Magi, promptly intervened on site.
According to initial reports, the motorboat began to take on water after about three hours of navigation, sinking completely within ten minutes.
The recovery operations of the wreck are currently underway, with the help of a local diver and under the supervision of the Coast Guard.
The aim is to remove the vessel from the seabed to avoid any danger to navigation and the surrounding environment.
The causes of the accident are still to be ascertained. The Coast Guard has launched an investigation to determine the dynamics of the accident.
