An attempt to smuggle cell phones into Secondigliano prison was foiled thanks to the timely intervention of Penitentiary Police officers.
A drone loaded with devices was intercepted and blocked during a regular external patrol. The incident, which occurred yesterday morning, saw the unmanned aircraft get caught in high-voltage pylons, thus facilitating the recovery of illegal materials by the agents.
The episode highlights once again the ingenuity of criminals in trying to circumvent prison security systems and the prompt response of the men and women of the Penitentiary Police.
The Si.NAPPe unions expressed their appreciation for the actions of the agents and underlined the importance of strengthening prison security measures.
Louis Vargas, Deputy Secretary General of Si.NAPPe, declared: “This episode demonstrates the need for continuous updating of strategies to counter new threats. The professionalism of the agents has allowed us to avert a potential danger to the internal security of the prison.”
Pasquale Gallo, National Secretary of Si.NAPPe, added: “We believe it is essential that the Ministry of Justice invests in advanced technologies and in training staff to effectively counter such intrusion attempts. The commitment of the agents is commendable, but concrete support is needed to ensure the safety of penitentiary institutions.”
Orlando Scocca, Regional Secretary of Si.NAPPe, concluded: “This incident highlights the importance of strengthening external oversight. We are calling for an increase in resources and staff to ensure adequate coverage and prevent similar incidents.”
Si.NAPPe reiterates its commitment to supporting the Penitentiary Police and hopes that this episode will serve as a warning to further strengthen the prison security system.
