Who bathed in sea in Campania in the last few weeks he has never felt the difference in temperature between his body and that of the water and therefore no shivers.
Article Key Points
This is because the first ten days of August this year were characterised in Campania by particularly high sea temperatures.
The series of coastal water samples taken by Arpac from 6 to 8 August shows temperatures above 30°C in many locations: last 7 August, for example, 30,0°C were measured at Napoli-Trentaremi, 31,0°C in Sorrento-Marina Grande, 30,5°C in Camerota-Mingardo Beach.
At the measurement site not influenced by local anthropogenic effects, located between Vivara and Procida in correspondence with the Vivara State Reserve and the Regno di Nettuno Marine Protected Area, 6°C was measured on 29,6 August, the highest value in the historical series of this site.
The phenomenon is widespread along the entire regional coast, from the border with Lazio to that with Basilicata, with values of temperature of coastal waters above 29°C in almost all samples taken in the 328 bathing waters into which the Campania coast is divided.
The data processed byHarp Campania are consistent with what has been detected on a large scale by satellite systems: for example, the Sentinel data processed by the Copernicus system of the European Union show temperatures of over 10°C in the Gulf of Naples on 29 August.
Data from Arpa Campania reveal sea temperature anomaly
From US satellite data processed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and compared with historical data, a sea temperature anomaly of 3°C was detected in Campania in the first ten days of August.
This anomaly has impacts on marine biocenoses with corals, for which Noaa predicts a high alert level in the next 15 days.
Extreme weather phenomena are also favored by sea temperatures above 28°C, which can generally facilitate the formation of Medicanes, a sort of Mediterranean micro-hurricanes, in the presence of conditions of instability and influx of cold air masses above the warm sea.
