The large-scale seizure in the port of Naples of 188 kilograms of cocaine hidden in a cargo of plums from South America represents only the starting point of an investigation that, in fact, begins now.
The search is underway for the accomplices within the port, those who allegedly helped clear the valuable merchandise (purchase value 5 million euros and 30 million on sale) through customs and then transported it outside the port area.
But investigations are also underway into the recipients of the drugs. Namely, the clans that made the infamous "bets," those who purchased shares of the shipment. Because one thing is certain: such a shipment didn't arrive in Naples to serve a single criminal family.
And surely, Calabrian 'Ndrangheta families allied with the Neapolitans are also involved in this process. It's always been this way historically. And it certainly will be this way now, too.
But the seizure also opens up other investigative scenarios: for the first time in a long time, the port of Naples has once again become a point of reference for traffickers.
