A Special Screening
The film “Il Postino,” directed by Michael Radford and featuring Academy Award-winning music by Luis Bacalov, was screened again in the Sala Casinò at the 81st Venice International Film Festival. This special event was conceived by Maria Grazia Cucinotta and produced by Hollywood Communication and La Biennale di Venezia, with the collaboration of the Settimana della Critica and Giornate degli Autori, and with the support of the Campania Region and the Film Commission Regione Campania.
The Memory of Maria Grazia Cucinotta
Maria Grazia Cucinotta, reflecting on her experience with Troisi, said: “Massimo Troisi taught me humility and respect for the public, for people. Without which none of us would exist. 'Il postino' turned my life upside down, giving me very strong emotions and that success, in Italy and around the world, that can overwhelm and destabilize you. I owe all this to Massimo, and the ability to always remain anchored to reality, with my feet firmly planted on the ground”.
Vincenzo De Luca's speech
The President of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca, paid homage to the artist, recalling how Troisi united Italy with his sympathy, kindness and humanity. De Luca added: "When Massimo Troisi died, 30 years ago, we all experienced this very badly, an unacceptable event. Seeing the affection and attention that this great artist and his cinema still manages to inspire today, even more so in the new generations, is a very encouraging sign".
Supporting Cinema and Culture
In his speech, De Luca reiterated the Campania Region's commitment to supporting cinema and culture through specific laws that guarantee stability to the cultural sector. He also highlighted the risk that differentiated autonomy could penalize many regions and put small audiovisual businesses in difficulty.
Interventions by Enzo De Caro and Anna Bonaiuto
Enzo De Caro emphasized how in “Il postino” one can find all the distinctive characteristics of Troisi’s art, highlighting his gentle tenacity and uniqueness. Anna Bonaiuto remembered Troisi as one of the most important encounters in her life, describing the experience of filming scenes with him and Philippe Noiret as a precious gift.
Further Celebrations
The meeting was also attended by Vincenzo Ferrera and representatives of the Film Commission Regione Campania, who announced further celebrations in honor of Massimo Troisi. A further tribute is planned for early October at the Palazzo Reale in Naples, as part of the “Campania Libri Festival”. The tribute to Massimo Troisi at the Venice Film Biennale was a moment of great emotion and reflection, proving to be a precious opportunity to remember and celebrate an artist who left an indelible mark on the Italian and world cinema scene.
