The Procida Vela Cup 2024 is ready to bring to life an exciting weekend of sport and passion for the sea. From 27 to 29 September, the island of Procida will welcome sailors and enthusiasts, transforming the Marina di Procida into a lively village dedicated to sailing. The event, which is inspired by the famous Barcolana, will see the participation of over 80 boats, offering a unique combination of competition, tradition and solidarity.
Among the boats that will sail the waters of the Marine Protected Area of the Kingdom of Neptune, we highlight the historic “Pianosa”, a lateen sail built in 1947 and restored by the Aprea Shipyard, flanked by the ultra-modern WIP650 “Ardita Ingegneria del Sole”, led by the award-winning skipper Adriano Tucci. Procida Sailing Cup is part of the national circuit of the VELA Cup, which every year brings hundreds of boats of all types and sizes to sea. This stage represents the penultimate event before the closing in Capo d'Orlando, in Sicily.
The official opening of the event is scheduled for Friday, September 27 at 15:00 p.m., when Mayor Raffaele Ambrosino will welcome the participants. An evening cocktail will follow, during which the Premio Passione Mare will be awarded to Davide Besana, famous cartoonist and promoter of the “Sail The Children” project, which allows hundreds of kids to discover the charm of sailing.
Saturday will be the highlight, with the start of the regatta scheduled for 11:00. The boats will launch into a breathtaking competition along a route that will touch some of the most suggestive places on the island, such as Terra Murata, Marina Corricella and Vivara. Among the protagonists of the race, the Nientemale team, winner of numerous trophies in the Gulf of Naples, and Sly Fox Cube, a boat that dominated the Winter Offshore Sailing Championship.
Not just sailing: the event will also host a gathering of vintage and classic motor boats, including historic Baglietto, Riva and Bertram models, organized by ASDEC. In keeping with tradition, Cantiere Aprea will make available for a test the G-10, a hybrid gozzo that represents the meeting between innovation and respect for maritime tradition.
On Sunday, the celebrations will culminate with the feast of San Michele, patron saint of Procida, and with the awarding of prizes to the winning boats. The event will end with a Solidarity Regatta promoted by Blue Dream Charter, whose proceeds will go to finance humanitarian projects in Uganda. A perfect mix of sport, culture and social commitment that makes the Procida Vela Cup an unmissable event for lovers of the sea.
