Even yesterday evening in the centre of Naples it was an evening of checks by the Carabinieri.
The aim is always the same: to limit the phenomenon of the spread of weapons among young people and consequently avoid criminal actions.
A patrol of the Carabinieri notices a group of boys in Piazza Carolina, one is sitting on one of the scooters parked on the stand, while others are on the sidewalks a few steps from the Prefecture.
Among them, one appears particularly nervous when a patrol from the Centro company arrives. The carabinieri notice him immediately and subject him to the first check.
The young man is just 16 years old and in his pocket – the reason for his agitation – is a 7,62 caliber pistol. Not just any gun, but a Zastava Tokarev, made in Serbia, used during the Yugoslav wars by the army. The pistol has the serial number erased, it is ready to fire, with five cartridges in the magazine.
The 16-year-old had a war pistol ready to fire
The boy was arrested for carrying a clandestine weapon and is now at the Colli Aminei center, awaiting trial.

Another young man, 18 years old, hides a second gun, although this one is a blank gun. However, the absence of the red cap makes it difficult to identify him. The Carabinieri of the Vomero company also find him in possession of a switchblade.
What is missing is a plausible justification for such equipment, more suited to a guerrilla warfare than to an evening of entertainment. The boy will be reported.
Another knife was found in the pockets of a 40-year-old man. Also in Vomero, another minor was stopped, with whom the operation had opened. He had just turned 15 and was carrying a telescopic baton attached to his belt. He didn't know it was forbidden, but this didn't prevent him from being reported.
The Carabinieri's checks are not limited to the seizure of weapons. In the city center, the military reported five illegal parking attendants and two young people caught driving despite never having obtained a license. In addition, 38 traffic violations were issued, many of which in the pedestrian area of Piazza Dante.

We hope that these checks can help ensure greater safety in the city.
