Milan speaks Fonseca – On the eve of the eagerly awaited challenge against Napoli, Milan coach Paulo Fonseca expresses confidence and ambition. “Napoli is a very strong team, with an equally strong coach. They are going through a good moment and will arrive here very motivated, but so are we. Napoli have won well the games they have won, but we also want to win,” Fonseca declared.
With Napoli currently top of the table, the Rossoneri coach does not hide his aspirations: “We can also fight for the title. The fans must believe in us, because we are strong and growing.” Fonseca did not fail to respond to the rumours that he was less desired than Antonio Conte: “My motivation is to be the Rossoneri coach,” he clarified, clearing away speculation.
One of the hot topics concerns the position of Rafael Leao, the young Portuguese talent who is not going through an easy period. “Leao? I understand the curiosity, he worked well as always. It’s not a problem and it’s not a coincidence. We are sure that he will soon return to express himself as we expect,” said Fonseca. However, it remains doubtful whether he will be a starter: “If he will play tomorrow, I won't say. In Champions I was lucky to reveal the lineup, but this time I prefer not to.”
Fonseca also added a note regarding the choice to keep Leao on the bench in the last matches: “It happens that the coach is not playing him. These are normal things in football: some play, others don't. I always evaluate many variables when I choose. For me, this management is absolutely normal.”
