Moments of tension in the countryside of Casafredda, a hamlet of Teano, on the slopes of the extinct volcano Roccamonfina. A 50-year-old local man, busy picking chestnuts on his land, was threatened with a billhook by two mushroom hunters who had invaded his property.
According to the reconstruction, the two men entered the owner's field without permission, trampling on the chestnuts that had been collected. Annoyed by the disrespectful behavior, the farmer asked them to move away from his land. At that point, one of the mushroom hunters reacted violently, taking out a billhook, the typical sickle used to collect mushrooms, and threatening the man.
Despite the attack, the owner refused to be intimidated. He quickly defended himself, punching the attacker and disarming him. The blade of the weapon broke and struck a nearby tree, ending the confrontation. Local authorities are investigating the incident, and the incident has raised concerns among local farmers, who are increasingly faced with similar incidents of invasions of their property during the mushroom picking season.
