VAR on call – Lega Serie A president Lorenzo Casini has opened up to the possibility of introducing an on-demand “VAR call”, a system that would allow teams to request the intervention of the VAR in controversial situations, but with a well-defined structure. Speaking on Radio Anch'io Sport on Rai Radio Uno, Casini underlined the importance of intelligent management of the proposal.
"It must be carefully evaluated and constructed appropriately. If we move to the call, the interventions will have to decrease, but it is a model that requires a dedicated team and careful planning." The goal, according to Casini, is finding a balance that does not leave direct responsibility in the hands of the coaches but that favors a clear and regulated process.
“It would not be a direct call from the coaches – Casini specifies – but of a system entrusted to a specific team. It is a possibility that we must think about thoroughly". The idea represents a possible step forward to make the use of VAR more transparent and functional, a tool still at the center of numerous debates and controversies on every day of the championship.
